Megiddo Detainees Report Poor and Insufficient Food During Ramadan

The Prisoners’ Media Office confirmed in February 2026 that prisoners in Megiddo prison are reporting poor quality and insufficient food during the holy month of Ramadan, alongside continued restrictions inside the detention sections.
The office said that both the iftar and suhoor meals are served in very small portions, compounded by the poor quality of food provided to fasting prisoners during Ramadan.
The office added that a number of administrative detainees are suffering from various health conditions amid medical neglect and a lack of adequate medical follow-up. Prisoners have also complained about a shortage of cleaning supplies inside the cells and a reduction in daily outdoor exercise time to less than one hour in some sections.
The Prisoners’ Media Office stressed that these testimonies reflect part of the suffering endured by prisoners in Megiddo prison during Ramadan. The office called on human rights and humanitarian organizations to intervene urgently and pressure the Israeli Prison Service to improve detention conditions and guarantee minimum basic needs, first and foremost adequate food, healthcare, and hygiene supplies.
