Journalist Prisoner Endures Harsh Conditions Requiring Immediate Intervention

The Prisoners’ Media Office reported that journalist prisoner Mumin Al-Halabi from Gaza is facing harsh detention conditions inside Ganot (Ramon) Prison, as a result of the policy of deliberate medical neglect practised by the occupation’s prison administration against him.

The Office clarified that the prisoner has been suffering from blood clots in his left leg for several months. He had received treatment for a limited period before the prison administration recently cut off his medication deliberately, leading to a deterioration in his health condition and difficulty in movement and walking, in the complete absence of any genuine medical follow-up.

The Prisoners’ Media Office indicated that journalist prisoner Mumin Al-Halabi is subjected to harsh detention conditions including general malnutrition, reduction of recreational time, and irregular access to the exercise yard, in addition to periodic raids and suppression operations carried out by occupation forces within the section.

With the onset of winter, the prisoner suffers from severe cold and insufficient winter clothing, possessing only two blankets and a single jacket, alongside an acute shortage of basic clothing, in clear violation of the most fundamental humanitarian standards within prisons.

The Office further reported the deliberate and ongoing deprivation of access to the Holy Quran, constituting a direct violation of the religious rights of prisoners.

The Prisoners’ Media Office affirmed that the treatment to which journalist prisoner Mumin Al-Halabi is subjected falls within the context of a systematic policy targeting free expression and journalistic work through detention, ill-treatment, and medical neglect, in an attempt to break his will and silence the truth.

The Office holds the occupation fully responsible for the life and safety of journalist prisoner Al-Halabi, and calls upon local and international human rights and media institutions for urgent intervention to halt these violations, ensure the immediate restoration of his medical treatment, and secure his full rights as both a prisoner and a journalist.
