Women at Damon prison have no way to know when dawn prayer begins

Women held at Damon prison have no way to tell the time. They do not know when the dawn prayer begins, so they cannot pray on time, the Prisoners’ Media Office says.

Conditions inside are hard. They erode the women’s basic rights and add to their suffering by the day. Medical care is scarce. The prison holds some of the women in solitary confinement and bars others from family visits and regular contact.

Daily life in the wards remains harsh. The women have pushed again and again for better conditions and for their basic needs to be met.

The Prisoners’ Media Office has called on international rights groups to step in now, end the violations against the women, and protect their human rights and freedom to worship behind bars.
