Harrowing Testimonies from Life-Sentence Prisoners Inside Janot Prison

Abuses Include Violent Suppression, Physical Beatings, and Verbal Humiliation
A number of life-sentence prisoners held at Janot Prison (Nafha) have reported severe living conditions inside the facility, under an ongoing policy of deliberate neglect and systematic abuse perpetrated by the Israel Prison Service.
The Prisoners’ Media Office has received testimonies from within the prison indicating that detainees are suffering from an acute deterioration in both the quality and quantity of food provided. This has had a direct impact on their health, with documented cases of emaciation and significant weight loss, alongside recurring medical complaints that receive no response from prison administration.
The prisoners stated that the prison administration deliberately delays the provision of medical treatment and denies them necessary medical examinations, even as many continue to suffer from physical pain and various symptoms of illness.
They further reported a severe shortage of clothing and the failure to provide adequate changes of garments, in addition to irregular access to the outdoor exercise yard and the denial of bathing facilities for extended periods, conditions that compound the harshness of their detention.
The life-sentence prisoners confirmed that the prison administration imposes collective and individual punishments for the most trivial of reasons, accompanied by mistreatment and repeated acts of violence including suppression, physical beatings, and verbal humiliation, in an apparent attempt to break their will and undermine their resilience.
The Prisoners’ Media Office emphasised that the conditions inside Janot Prison (Nafha) constitute a clear violation of all humanitarian laws and norms, and called upon human rights organisations and relevant authorities to intervene urgently to halt these violations and to hold the occupation accountable for its crimes against prisoners.
