Two are in administrative detention without charge, held on the basis of a secret file. The third spent 18 straight years in occupation prisons, was released, and has now been arrested again. The courts are still taking more of his years.

Visits have stopped. Lawyers cannot reach any of them.

The family waits for any news that might put its mind at rest, and keeps asking the same question: what have the prisons done to them?

It started with Hilmi Naseem Qarqari, 29. Occupation forces arrested him on March 30, 2026, and took him to the Huwwara interrogation center, where a beating fractured his left shoulder. After a long interrogation, he was moved to Ofer prison and placed in administrative detention. His first order ran for six months. It was later renewed for six more.

He had his spleen removed before his arrest, which left his immune system weak. In prison, the immune system is the first thing disease attacks. There is no ventilation, and sunlight barely reaches the prisoners. Released prisoners say the food is so scarce and so poor that it would not fill a kitten’s stomach.

Hilmi Naseem’s uncle, Yassin Hilmi Qarqari, 49, is in grave condition. Inside Ofer prison, he was beaten so badly that ribs on both sides of his chest broke. He also took blows to the spleen and kidneys.

Occupation forces detained Yassin on May 12, 2026. Prison has already taken a large share of his life: he spent 18 consecutive years behind bars before his release.

He had a blood clot before his arrest and has had two more since. He also has masses in his chest. For eight days, he refused food and water, demanding treatment. His family now knows nothing about him except that his ailments keep piling up. He has developed stomach pain, a herniated disc in his back, and foot pain.

Yassin had only just begun to catch his breath after that first imprisonment. He is a brigadier general in the Palestinian National Security Forces. All he wanted was to serve his homeland and live a settled life with his wife and two daughters. Now that dream has been taken from him again, and the family cannot say when this will end.

The family asks for one thing: a lawyer’s visit. Someone who can tell them how he is and what happened to him. What does he look like now? How much weight has he lost? What became of his treatment? In just a few months, his illnesses have multiplied at an alarming rate.

Then, in August, occupation forces arrested a third member of the family, Hilmi Khamis Qarqari, 30, and placed him in administrative detention on a six-month order.

Today the Qarqari family wants only news that its three sons are all right. Two remain in administrative detention without charge or trial. The third grows sicker by the day behind bars. With the men gone this long and no word reaching home, the family has nothing left to do but wait.

For how long?

The Israeli occupation has taken three sons from the Qarqari family of Salem, a village east of Nablus.
